Canned water has a shelf life of 30+ years, the longest water shelf life available in packaged water. This makes it the best choice for emergency drinking water, but because of its durable and convenient packaging, it has many other uses in day-to-day life too, like for camping, hunting and hiking excursions or as a water supply to keep in the trunk of your car.

In the United States, plastic bottled water, which is commonly used for emergency water storage, is stamped as having a shelf life of 2 years. That being said, the US Department of Homeland Security and the American Red Cross both encourage the public to change bottled water kept as an emergency water supply every six months. As far as emergency water storage goes, the expense and the trouble of having to repeatedly change your emergency water supply certainly adds up.

Canned water has been used by the US military and navy for decades, since World War II, as their choice as an emergency water supply. It is the military's cans from the 50's that have proven the extensive water shelf life of canned water. We acquired these government issued cans of water from the 50's and sent them to a testing lab to have the water's quality examined. Amazingly, the canned water was still safe to drink, proving a water shelf life of at least 30 years.

Can be stored at any temperature.  Since 1/4 of the can is vacuumed will not burst from freezing or boiling and will not sink in the water!
