California, Utah awash in rain, snow and mudslides
Date: 12/21/2010
-- Storm-weary Californians, some driven from their homes, faced another day of record-breaking snow, rain and flooding as the latest in a series of storms deluged the region, forecasters said Tuesday.
Los Angeles County authorities ordered the evacuation of 147 residences in La Canada Flintridge and 85 more residences in La Crescenta on Tuesday afternoon out of fear of debris flows from projected rainfalls, officials said. Residents had until 9 p.m. (12 a.m. Wednesday ET) to comply with the order, which was a precautionary measure, officials said.
Meanwhile, in Utah, Gov. Gary Herbert said he was prepared to declare a state of emergency in the state's southern areas, where floodwaters have washed out at least one bridge and forced the evacuation of Rockville, a town of about 300.
